Journalism Training

Journalism is the only career that cannot be learned at a tertiary institution. Doctors, lawyers, teachers, auto-electricians, blacksmiths, prostitutes, taxi drivers – all have the luxury of being able to study for a few short years, and then being able to consider themselves to be qualified. As a journalist, not only does one need to be able to understand what it is that each of those people do, but also to be able to explain that to others.

Our journalism training programmes are based on custom designed modules which fully integrate within the operational workflow of media organisations while laying down standards complying with or exceeding international best practice. Measurable levels of competence are set according to seniority and/or experience. These are suitable for inclusion in job descriptions for purposes of performance management.

One year programmes are suitable for equipping interns within a media organisation with competencies at levels exceeding those recommended by the MAPPP SETA. These are designed for batches of 10 to 14 interns per year and feature interactive courseware software developed in conjunction with our partners. (A sample training site for an existing client can be found here.)

Shorter programmes and workshops are available in particular areas of specialisation including macroeconomics, microeconomics, science, technology, health, and law.

Journalism for the non-journalist is geared toward Corporate Communications professionals who are required to interact with journalists on an ongoing basis.
